- ✓Life expectancy greater than 3 months
- ✓Karnofsky Performance Status greater than 60%
- ✓Radiographic imaging documenting measurable disease within 28 days of study entry

- ✕Resectable (operable) gastric carcinoma
- ✕Brain metastasis or known seizure disorder
- ✕Major surgery within 4 weeks of study entry
- ✕Active peptic ulceration, gastrointestinal bleeding, or active bleeding disorders

Detailed Summary
Imatinib mesylate may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking the enzymes necessary for tumor cell growth. This phase II trial is studying how well imatinib mesylate works in treating patients with refractory metastatic and/or unresectable stomach or gastroesophageal junction cancer.
