ClinicalIndex Comparison Record- ✓DSM-IV diagnosis of schizophrenia (any subtype) or schizoaffective disorder with refractory auditory hallucinations, with illness duration >1 year
- ✓Age 18-70 years
- ✓Clinically stable for at least 12 weeks without hospitalization or change in level of care
- ✓On current antipsychotic doses for at least 4 weeks
- ✕DSM-IV diagnosis of alcohol or substance abuse (other than nicotine) within the last month, or dependence within the last 6 months
- ✕Positive urine drug screen for cannabis, cocaine, amphetamine, barbiturates, or opiates
- ✕Current treatment (within 4 weeks) with daily benzodiazepines (PRN use >48 hours before study session allowed)
- ✕Medical or neurological illness that could interfere with study participation (unstable cardiac disease, AIDS, malignancy, liver or renal impairment)
